Support the music

With only 25 seats, ticket sales pay the musicians and very little else. Your support helps us pay musicians properly, buy the instrument this music deserves, and open our doors to people who couldn't otherwise come.

Our musicians

Paying musicians properly

We know our tickets aren't the cheapest. That's because one thing matters to us above almost everything: paying our musicians properly.

Classical musicians are so often undervalued and underpaid, despite the extraordinary years of training and dedication that go into their craft. We are determined to do things differently here, while keeping every concert as intimate and special as it can be.

As we grow, we want to do more than pay a fair fee. One of the outstanding young pianists who plays here, an award-winning conservatoire graduate, cannot yet afford a piano good enough to practise on. We would love to help musicians like her with the instruments, time and support they need.

Our appeal

A piano worthy of the music

We are extraordinarily fortunate to welcome musicians who perform on some of the world’s greatest concert stages. We want our audiences to hear them at their very best, but one vital ingredient is missing: a piano worthy of their artistry.

A truly exceptional piano offers an extraordinary range of colour, sensitivity and expression. It responds to the lightest touch and allows a pianist to communicate everything the music demands, from the quietest whisper to the greatest intensity. Our current piano simply cannot offer this.

We are searching for an instrument of the highest quality. Our dream would be a Steinway & Sons or a Shigeru Kawai. It needn’t be new; a beautifully maintained second-hand piano would be wonderful. What matters is its musical potential, not its name.

The intimacy of Goodworth House makes every nuance audible. We want to give our musicians the freedom to express themselves fully, and our audiences the rare privilege of hearing every detail, just a few feet away.

“The Steinway is the most versatile instrument I know.”
Mitsuko Uchida, pianist
“No other piano comes close to a Steinway.”
“Its range of colour never fails to capture the imagination and its responsiveness is always breathtaking.”
Paul Lewis, pianist
“The Shigeru piano always gives me inspiration to create music at a very high level. I love its honest and transparent sound.”
Junko Ueno Garrett, concert pianist
